Saint Chappelle

Built in the 13th century, the stained glass windows of this chapel are amazing. About two thirds of the stained glass windows are original. Located on the île de la cité right behind Notre Dame. Saint Chappelle is usually overlooked but you can't miss visiting this amazing masterpiece.

2. Conciergerie

Conciergerie

This was first home to the kings of France, but in the 14th century, it was transformed into a prison. This is the location where Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were held prisoner before they were beheaded in 1793.

Visit both the Conciergerie and Saint Chappelle here.

3. Clock on the outside wall of Conciergerie

4. Covered Passages

Covered passage

Most of the covered passages are located on the right bank, the northern part, of the Seine. These were created in the 19th century, but most were destroyed during the Haussmann renovation of Paris, where we see the creation of the grand boulevards of Paris. There were once almost 200 covered passages, now there are less than 30. Most were built with glass ceilings and mosaic floors and can still be admired today.

Read more about it in my blog here.

Take a walking tour of the covered passages here.

Bercy Village

Bercy Village is now a commercial center where you can eat, shop, and see a movie. But in the 19th and early 20th century, it played an important role in the selling of wine. The buildings you see now were once used to store wine and at the time, this was the biggest wine market in the world.

Rue Crémieux

The most Instagrammed street in Paris is not the Champs Élysées, but rue Cremieux. If you go here to take pictures, be respectful. People do live here. 9. Café de Chats

Café de Chats

Close to the Opera Bastille, is a café where you can drink your coffee or tea with cats. I love cats so this is one of the first places I went when I moved to Paris. 10. Le Train Bleu

Gare de Lyon

Located inside the Gare de Lyon, this restaurant has a charm, but be warned, it is expensive ! It is a lovely place to have an apéro before boarding your train, or just a nice place to go while in Paris. *This post contains affiliate links where I make a small commission when you buy at no extra cost to you !
