Updated: Oct 15, 2023

It's no secret that Ernest Hemingway lived in Paris in the 1920s, he even wrote a book about it called A Moveable Feast. A huge surge of writers and artists moved to Paris at the time, it was the place to be. So, if you're a fan and want to travel in his footsteps, here are some of the best places to go. Before you travel to Paris, read a Moveable Feast and bring it with you ! Hemingway basically leads you on a tour of his Paris. Some of his favorite Parisienne cafés were cheap at the time, but that is not so now, so go for a drink or a coffee as Hemingway used to do.

1. La Rotonde - 105 du boulevard du Montparnasse Along with The Dome, these two cafés are the most famous in the neighborhood of Montparnasse. 2. Le Dome - 108 du boulevard du Montparnasse Out of these first four cafés, this was the café that Hemingway frequented the most. 3. La Coupole - 102 du boulevard du Montparnasse 4. Le Select - 99 du boulevard du Montparnasse As you can tell by the closeness of the addresses, these cafés are all very close together. All four, La Rotonde, Le Dome, La Coupole, and Le Select, have all been frequented by artists around the world. 5. La Closerie des Lilas - 171 du boulevard du Montparnasse In the neighborhood of Montparnasse. It was here that F. Scott Fitzgerald read Hemingway the manuscript for The Great Gatsby. And we can't forget Gertrude Stein, she trained many young writers of the Lost Generation, including Hemingway. She hosted them at her house including Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Sinclair Lewis, and many more. Stop by where she used to live at 27 rue de Fleurus. You'll notice that these addresses are on the boulevard of Montparnasse. Montparnasse is one of the tallest buildings in Paris, so if you want a view of the city, take the elevator to the top to see. It is not free, it costs €20.
